Edible icing images not just for cake tops

Here in NZ my daughters birthday fell during level 4 lockdown. Luckily a few gifts had been purchased earlier in the year, so we still had something of a celebration. Although turning 17, I decided to turn it in to a treasure hunt (as she'd loved this as a child. And lets face it, I had to do something to fill those long lockdown days)
There were 4 of us at home, so I decided to make a small cake. I'd taken home some supplies on our last day of work prior to lock down.
I'd printed an edible image of our wee dog Kenzie. then trimmed the background so it was the exact height of the cake.
Whilst we are used to seeing edible icing images used on cake tops, I really enjoyed the different look of this one on the side of the cake
If you'd like us to print an edible image for you check that out here

Changing the face of birthday cakes at Kiwicakes

New licensed character cake kits

We have a great new range of birthday cake kits, as well as candle sets available separately.

We've got creative with what we can offer customers, as we no longer sell edible images of licensed characters (there's no license available in NZ
to print them anymore). We were disappointed to lose them, but we hope our new alternatives will prove just as popular. It's an opportunity to try something new. We have over 50 popular
kids themes to choose from click here to view (Popular themes to name just a few are Paw Patrol, Frozen, Disney Cars, Spiderman, Avengers, Disney Princess, Tinkerbell etc)

We still have a great range of edible icing images available in classic themes such as unicorn, pirates, animals and more. And of course we can print your own photos, adding text if required. We can print photos of your child dressed as their favourite superhero or princess. Think outside the square, like reading their Harry Potter book or playing with their favourite toy. See our website here

New range of edible images from Kat at ibicci

What happens when Sandra from Kiwicakes teams up with stencil guru Kat Rutledge from ibicci? A new range of edible images is born.

Using Kat's amazing stencil designs and awesome graphic design skills, Kiwicakes is now offering a range of edible icing images that feature graphics used in Kat's stencils.

We have 4 inch cake strips available that are printed on A3 icing sheets. Simply cut the two panels using scissors and they are ready to wrap around your covered cake. They can be applied directly to Buttercream, fondant or ganache (an instruction sheet accompanies your purchase).

You'll also find on our website fun designs for cake tops, cookies and cupcakes. More new designs are on the way.  Check them out here

Happy Birthday Sienna - beautiful blossoms

At the recent Cake and Craft show in Napier, I was joined by Stacey Johnson from Design at 409 Stacey made some amazing display cakes for the Kiwicakes stand using a combination of Kiwicakes products and her special cake toppers. For those of you who were unable to attend in person and see these cakes up close, over the next few days I'll be sharing the photos with you here.

Stacey used a gorgeous handmade wooden topper to celebrate Sienna's birthday. The blossom are made using cutter & veiner sets  The super cute house uses the FMM more than a birdhouse cutter set. The trees use the FMM fluffy cloud set. And there's even the FMM picket fence cutter. The little butterflies are created with gumpaste using the butterfly plunger cutters. This cake was greatly admired at the show.

Mainfreight Truck cake made by Kiwicaker Suzanne

I was wow-ed this afternoon when I received the following photos from Kiwicaker Suzanne Davies, she had used our custom edible image service to create the logos to use on this truck cake for a Mainfreight driver.

I received the loveliest letter From Suzanne and she gracefully gave her permission for me to share with you all.

Hi Vaughan and fellow Kiwi Cakes staff

Thank you so much for the fantastic service and product that I received.
The images are brilliant; your overall service from my initial contact requesting printing of an item that is not generally done to your followup 'phone call Vaughan, adjustments to the prototype, to the next day delivery was absolutely first class.

My brother was totally thrilled with the end  result - (please see attached photos).
As for me - I've gone from not knowing anything about trucks to almost expert status in a few days - now I can't stop looking at trucks where ever I go, aargh!

Thanks again
Suzanne Davies

Operation Sugar in the news in Kamo

Kiwicakes as many of you know is based in Kamo. And our lovely Kamo Connect ran a story recently on Operation Sugar (for which Kiwicakes is an official sponsor).

Gorgeous Cover girl Sophie had a stunning cake made for her from local cake maker Lisa Hansen from The Whole Cake & Caboodle.

Minette Hanekom was the photographer for Sophie's party. Sophie's mum said "To be able to be part of the party without having to stop and take photos, it was great"

If you'd like to know more about Operation Sugar, to organise a cake for a child that has a life threatening illness, or requires frequent hospilisation. Or if you'd like to volunteer as a cake maker, click here

Gracie's Frozen birthday party part 2

This is part 2 of Gracies Frozen party. Part 1 with her cake is here. Jenny spent months planning Gracie's party. Collecting party items for months, many of which came from Kiwicakes. The cupcake papers and cupcake stand can be found here

Jenny piped her cupcakes with our buttercream recipe  using tip 4b

The back drop was some lovely sparkly blue fabric that was going begging from our storeroom and the drapes were made with plastic snowflake tablecovers

The party table made Gracie's day and her friends loved it.

The girls could choose between milk bottles or frozen cups

Frozen snowball cake pops anyone?. They look stunning on our acrylic cake pop stand

The chocolate covered oreos were a hit with the little party goers. Using this mould

They're fun to make with kids in the lead up to the party. Simple melt your chocolate

To create a contrasting colour, add some powdered or candy colour to your white chocolate.

Fill this colour in to the mould first and allow to set

A squeeze bottle makes it easier

Then add some white chocolate. And then place an Oreo cookie down in to the mould.

You can leave the back uncovered, or cover over with some more melted white chocolate. Whichever you prefer.

For take home loot. Gracie's little party goers took home sweets in Olaf cups and a few treasures in snowflake bags

The bags are a good size, but can be cut down easily if you don't need the extra space.

I think Jenny did an amazing job of Gracie's party. No wonder Gracie declared it "the best party ever!"

Frozen Olaf cake with cake lace for Gracie's birthday

This awesome Olaf, Frozen themed cake was made by Jenny here at Kiwicakes for her daughter Gracie's birthday recently. I think she did an amazing job, so I begged her for the photos for the blog. Gracie's full Frozen party will come in a second blog post soon.

Jenny used an 8'' hemisphere cake pan to make the top dome, which is covered in Satin Ice turquoise fondant icing. to get it nice and smooth be sure to use a cake smoother as it's a tricky shape.

Our lovely range of blue cake drums work well with the Frozen theme, Jenny used a 12'' square board as the base. Then she placed a 10'' square cake on top, that she rough iced with royal icing using a spatula. The white cake is trim with a border of white fondant icing, in to which is pressed a design using a shell tool. The hemisphere turquoise cake is bordered with pearls from a bead mould

Jenny tells me Olaf loves purple flowers, so our wafer paper purple flowers were perfect.

These were alternated with Frozen edible cupcake images

Topped off with a Frozen candle

And covered in pearlised snowflakes using cake lace in the the Crystal Cake Lace mat

Jenny used pearlised white cake lace mix, then over dusted some with blue lustre dust from Rainbow Dust

Jenny's Olaf was made using white satin ice fondant, to which a little tylose was added to stiffen it. The pieces were glued together using edible glue

I thing Jenny did an amazing job. Gracie declared it "The best cake ever!"
